Mutt Race

The Mutt Race is open to all ages and all well-behaved dogs.

Children are encouraged to practice at home with their pet dog, then come out and race with their own sleds and dogs against others in their age group and dog size category. Theoretically, this race is for kids and the family pet. However, in the past it has included everyone from a ninety-year-old man with a borrowed sled dog to a Chihuahua pulling “Klondike Barbie.”

Usually some mushers or dog handlers with a spare dog or two or a spare sled help out at this event, enabling children who do not own a dog to race. If you have a dog or sled available please contact the Mutt Race Chair on Saturday morning, or just simply show up at the racecourse at about 1030.

All entrants will run the course individually against the clock, with the best time winning.
Race length: approximately 100 yards.

The following equipment will be available to borrow: sleds, harnesses, and hopefully, dogs.
All adult competitors must sign a waiver, and all children must have an adult or guardian sign a waiver.

We will do all we can to let everyone race, however, this event must end at 12 noon, so that the snowshoe race can begin. People are encouraged to enter both events.

Location:
The mutt racecourse is near the start/finish line of the main races, but it will actually be on Main Street, in front of City Drug.

Registration:
Saturday morning, before the race. From 9:00 am until 10:45 am, near the racecourse. Look for signs.

Entry Fee:
None. This is free of charge to all participants.

Starting Time: 11 am.
Awards and Prizes:
Awards go to the fastest racers in each category, and all competitors get a prize.
